Amateurs Mini-Session – in collaboration with the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs (May 18 – 29)

AmateursFor Performers:

This Session is especially designed for competitors of the International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, presented by the Van Cliburn Foundation. Taking place right before the opening of the competition, amateur competitors are offered two chances to play in master classes, one private lesson and in public recitals. It is designed to fine tune the competition pieces and to allow participants to have a continuous experience of stage performing, thus building up their confidence and security. It is particularly helpful that each participant has the opportunity of performing in a master class situation and in recitals on the stage of Ed Landreth Auditorium, the actual venue of the Amateurs Competition.

Practice Facilities:

In addition to the practice rooms organized by the Cliburn Foundation, performers in this session have exclusive access to TCU’s practice rooms with grand pianos throughout the entire competition. A specific practice schedule will be provided upon arrival.

General Observers:

A limited number of participants may enroll as General Observers. During the program, General Observers are welcome to approach any artist/teacher of their choice for private lessons at additional cost.

PianoTexas will utilize TCU dormitories. Exact facility allocations and rates will be announced in February. All dormitory facilities are equipped with double or full size beds, semi-private bathrooms, small refrigerators, microwaves, and laundry facilities. Wireless internet access is available, but must be requested prior to arrival. Participants are responsible for bringing their own laptops/computers and other computer equipment to access the internet.

Please note: Due to liability restrictions, PianoTexas, through TCU, may only provide accommodations to those participants that are registered to participate in the entire PianoTexas Special Session for IPCOA Amateurs program, May 18-29, 2011. Early departures, late arrivals and requests for refunds will not be permitted or accommodated.

There are several fast food places, diner type restaurants, and a large supermarket within walking distance, along with a few on-campus dining options located in the newly constructed University Union.

  • Performers - $850 includes 2 master classes, 1 private lesson, chance to perform in recitals
