To Apply:

1.  Complete application form (online only)
2.  Pay a nonrefundable $80 application fee (online or send by mail)
3.  Submit a DVD recording of at least two works, solo and/or concerto, representing different styles. There is no time limit for your recording, and portions of works may be used (for example, one movement of a sonata).
IMPORTANT – please note the following regarding your DVD recording:

  • Acceptance as a performer very much depends on your performance and the quality of your recording
  • Only DVD recordings are accepted – NO videotapes or cassettes!
  • A CD recording may be submitted under only certain circumstances. Before submitting a CD, send a permission request outlining the reasons you are unable to submit a DVD to Zachariah Stoughton
  • Send THREE (3) identical copies of your audition recording
  • The recording should be recent (recorded within the last 18 months)
  • Each disc must be packaged in its own jewel case or sleeve
  • Clearly mark each disk with the pieces on the recording – this should be the same as your list of works in your application form. DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAME ON THE DISK.
  • Place your name in each disk on a piece of paper
  • Both American NTSC and European PAL systems are acceptable.
  • Please do not send original copies. PianoTexas is not responsible for returning any of the recordings

4.  Provide name and contact information (including email) of your current teacher and/or another distinguished musician. PianoTexas will request a recommendation for your participation.
5.  Submit a list of repertoire:

  • This year’s PianoTexas will focus on the music of Schubert – we strongly encourage you to bring sonatas and other works to the Festival. Please list repertoire in the order of preference for the solo master classes. List a minimum of four works that you will be ready to perform from memory in June, 2012.
For our reference, please list the Schubert works you have studied in the last 5 years.

  • Choice of complete piano concerto for the concerto competition– list of eligible concertos
  • Chamber Music – highly recommended but optional – list of chamber music works

6.  Provide a high resolution publicity photo suitable for printing - jpg, eps, tiff or psd (at a resolution of at least 300 dpi). The best way to send this is through email to Zachariah Stoughton
7.  Provide a personal biography including achievements, names of teachers, and hobbies. Your bio will be published on our website as well as in press releases, so it should be presented in a clear, understandable format in proper English prose.

Always remember that your application is a representation of yourself and your musical ability.
Applications which demonstrate professional image and conduct will receive priority in admission and scholarship consideration. Your Application is not complete until all materials are received

Active and General Observers:
1. Complete application form (online)
2. Pay a non-refundable $45 application fee (online or send by mail)
